NWT Housing Minister Plans To Use MGP Trailers

19 Oct 2005

CBC: Regular MLAs are sceptical about a government plan to use trailers left over from pipeline construction to create new housing options. Yesterday in the Legislature Housing Minister David Krutko outlined a plan to put 1,400 trailers throughout the Territory. The deal depends on the construction of the proposed Mackenzie gas project. The government will make a deal to obtain the trailers from the groups after construction is completed, but Range Lake MLA Sandy Lee says it may be a mistake.

LEE: I believe, and I’m an optimist, I believe that pipeline will go ahead. My nightmare is that when they come and go we’re going to have 1,400 trailers scattered all over the Territory that nobody wants. That is my big nightmare.

CBC: Krutko said he knows it’s not ideal to use used trailers, but he says the Territory needs to creative when it comes to dealing with the chronic housing shortages.
